Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but
gives us power and self-discipline."  (2 Timothy 1:7)

"When you are renewed in the spirit of your mind, you soon find
yourself restored to better and happier ways of living."
(Georgiana Tree West)

Are you spending sleepless nights worrying about things-job, money, future, career, family, world situation, health? Did you know that 99% of what you worry about will never come to pass? Still, we can usually find something to worry about if we try hard enough.

Worry is a habit, a habit that can be overcome. We can replace the worry thoughts with thoughts of truth, God, and the law of good. The law of good is always at work, we need but tap into that awareness, remembering that all things are working together for our highest good.

If we find ourselves anxious or concerned about the outcome of some situation, we need but remind ourselves that there is nothing to fear-nothing to be anxious about, for God is in charge and all is well!

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

God loves us and God cares for us-that's all we need to know. Enjoy this beautiful poem by Pauline Tyson Stephens from the book, A Treasury of UNITY POEMS:

PRAYER AT TWILIGHT

Dear God, as curfew's gentle touch
Has brought the closing of the day,
I ask forgiveness for the faults
That may have led my feet astray.

I ask that Thy good counseling
May heal my soul and hold me fast
Against a futile backward glance
To erring footprints of the past.

I proffer gratitude for all
The blessings lavished by Thy hand;
For life and health, for peace of mind,
And friends that care and understand.

Now let me gain the strength within
The sanctuary of the night
To meet new challenges that rise
In the glory of the morning light.

Praise God!

Weekly Wisdom/ Thoughts on Truth

"Now faith is the confidence in what we hope for and the assurance about what we do not see."
(Hebrews 11:1)

"Faith is the perceiving power of the mind linked with the power to shape substance."
(Charles Fillmore)

Faith is that ever-encouraging, confident feeling of knowing all is well because our Father, Mother, God loves us, cares for us, and is present in our lives every moment of every day. As we experience faith, we have a grander, deeper understanding of life and God. Our faith becomes a living faith, not a faith that is stuck in past modes of being.

With faith, we no longer hesitate to undertake any challenge that is worthy. It does not matter how great or difficult it may appear. Faith brings that sense of power, peace, strength, and confidence-a true understanding that with faith, we can accomplish great, wonderful, even miraculous things!

For those filled with faith, the future is as magnificent, successful and as beautiful as they desire it to be!

“Parting is such sweet sorrow.” (William Shakespeare)

As I prepare to retire and leave my beautiful Unity family, I have been reflecting on that Shakespearean quote. I am so excited about the next chapter of my life, and yet there is that bit of sweet sorrow that comes bubbling up in my consciousness.

We have been on the path of spiritual expansion and together have learned the deeper understanding of metaphysics and divine law. We have come to realize that we live in a sea of pure positive potential. We have been a spiritual support for one another— lifting our vision and holding that higher thought for peace of mind, happiness, success, health, abundance and radiant living.

We have come to understand and know that there is a plan for each of us and that we are totally equipped to carry out that plan and live in joy. We have been empowered to reach for the stars and follow God’s guidance knowing always that we are not alone—that God loves us, cares for us, guides us and directs us.

We have learned that having a desire is not some far off wish, but a very real message from our God. “Desire in the heart is always God tapping at the door of your consciousness with His infinite supply, a supply that is forever useless unless there be demand for it.” (H. Emilie Cady). There is nothing that stands between us, our heart’s desire, and our greater good. Our desires already exist in possibilities; the very reason we have a desire is because God is seeking to give it to us. “Fear not little flock; for it is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32).

A wonderful affirmation is:
I fear not. It is the Father’s good pleasure to give me the kingdom (heart’s desire) and it is my good pleasure to receive and accept it!

Or we may affirm:
The serene, calm, trustful Spirit now accomplishes all the desires of my heart. I rest in peace. (Charles Fillmore)

Unity of Delray Beach is a pillar of Truth, and throughout its history has fulfilled its purpose, “to help and teach mankind to use and prove the eternal Truth taught by the Master.” (Charles Fillmore). We teach a spiritually empowered way of living through positive, practical Christianity.

It has been an extreme honor and great pleasure to have served as your minister for the past 25 years. So boldly we proclaim in our departing, “Oh, the places we will go! The things we will see! The experiences we will have! We are off to Great Places and Miracles are to be had!”

God bless you,
Nancy

Greetings!

"Stop judging by appearances, but instead judge correctly."
(John 7:24)

"Wisdom in the mind of man is his power to choose rightly."
(Ella Pomeroy)

Within me is the wisdom of the ages. That wisdom is all-knowing, everywhere present and is readily available to me at a moment's notice. It knows what to do, when to do it and how to do it.

If at anytime I do not know which way to turn, I remind myself that I have access to unlimited wisdom and that it lies within me. I am an important part of a perfect and whole universe. There is an answer and divine wisdom shows me the perfect answer-opening ways where, to human sense, there is no way.

I know that nothing is impossible for I trust the unlimited help of divine wisdom; it reveals the greater good to me and I am blessed!

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"...The mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace."
(Romans 8:6)

"We are purely living spirit not hampered by any conditions
of any kind and therefore not subject to illness."
(Thomas Troward)

Life is everywhere present and we draw on life at all times. Life is never static. It is always moving, always changing. It is vitality. There is an effervescent essence about life. This life is God-life and we are one with God-life at all times.

We frequently become distracted by thoughts and beliefs that take us down the wrong path and away from our good. At such times we can affirm boldly and with power, "Life, life, life, life! I am filled with the vibrant, magnificent life of God!"

Then, let us continue to remind ourselves, as often as is necessary, that God and the universe are actively working on our behalf at all times to bring us what we ask for and what is for our highest and best good. When we come to know this truth and begin to live our lives from this point of view, we will be fully healed and restored in every way. Life, life, life, life! I am filled with the vibrant, magnificent life of God!

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"God is my strength and power and He makes my way perfect."(II Samuel 22:33)

"When we think confidently about what we have asked in prayer, nothing can keep it from us." (Georgiana Tree West)

In her book, Prosperity's Ten Commandments, Georgiana Tree West wrote: "It is a law of mind that whatever is held in mind eventually must appear in form. If we pray for one thing but think another, it is the thing we think about that is going to shape itself in our daily lives...If we want God's good we must stop slumming in mind."

Every so often, it's a good idea for us to take a personal inventory and do some major house cleaning-eliminating all ideas and beliefs that God requires us to live in misery, lack or poor health.

Our gift of elimination/renunciation is our ability to release old, negative thoughts, ideas and beliefs that no longer serve us; it's our ability to forgive and release others to their highest and best good. Upon releasing and letting go, we create a vacuum that allows greater good to appear in our lives. When we willingly let go, we gain and maintain a healthy state of mind and body. We experience inner peace, joy and well-being. Praise God!

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

Regret is a crippler of two of your spiritual gifts, judgement and zeal. In judgement, it feeds on poor choices, but in the case of zeal, it pulls the focus from "go forward" to "look back". In order to feel the affirmative impulse of the universe, you must focus forward. The Kingdom of Heaven is the realm of ever-expanding ideas, and to experience the Kingdom of Heaven, you must involve yourself in the process of expansion. Heaven is not a place. It is a process and an experience for you to enjoy. Your desire to expand in consciousness is motivated by Spirit as zeal.

With the use of any of your spiritual gifts, release is an important factor. Very often forgiveness is involved with release. With no forgiveness or release, you can't be free of past memories and regret. All forgiveness involves forgiving yourself in some way. Forgive yourself and still yourself toward zeal so you may be propelled beyond limited beliefs and fears.

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him..."
(Romans 8:28)

"Faith has nothing to do with visible circumstances. The moment one
considers circumstances, that moment one lets go of faith."
(H. Emilie Cady)

My faith assures me that I am always in the right place at the right time. As I place myself in the care and keeping of God, I rest confidently for I know that if my plans change it is for my highest good!

Rather than reacting when I become fearful because my best laid plan changes with some unexpected alterations, I stop and turn to God knowing that He is with me. I meet every unexpected turn of events and all seeming challenges with the idea that God loves me and cares for me. He guides me, directs me and protects me every moment of the day and night. I am never without God's loving presence. My faith is mighty; I move forward with boldness to do what needs to be done by me.

Faith has nothing to do with visible circumstances and everything to do with boldly standing firm with the assurance that what I desire already exists in the invisible realm of Spirit. I am always in my right place and ready to accept my highest good.

Principle Five: Living the Truth

[Editor's Note: This is the final installment in a series of five on the Unity Truth Principles.
It is designed to provide a deeper understanding of the thinking that forms the basis of our teachings and lives.]

Living the Truth, walking the talk, or practicing the truth as we know it is Principle 5. Theory is one thing, and practice is quite another. I believe we have come to the time in history where we cannot settle for uplifting quotations, idle affirmations that have no power of belief and conviction. This is the time, more than any other, to put into practice the Truths we have learned, and do so with all the power and authority that we have been given.

Principle 5 is the action part of the 5 Principles; it says, it works if you work it. Jesus was well-known for going into action. The Truth that He taught was not a static, lifeless set of principles, they were vibrant and powerful and were put to use at every opportunity. When He fed the 5,000, healed the sick, and raised the dead, he was using principles with an emphasis on action. The people could see the manifestation of his teachings. The saw and they believed. They experienced Jesus, and they saw that His teachings were not idle murmurings, but Truth demonstrated.

There is a story I heard many years ago, about a Unity minister and a man who attended his Wednesday evening class. Every Wednesday evening the man would come through the line to greet the minister and on a weekly basis he would tell him, “Thank you for tonight. I do enjoy coming here on Wednesdays. I learn so much, but I am a Baptist, and I go to the Baptist church on Sundays, so you will never see me here on a Sunday morning.” The minister always thanked him for coming and assured him he was always welcome whenever he came.

This went on for a year. Then, one Sunday the minister was surprised to see the man coming through the line after church. The minister stated, Ï am so happy to see you, but I thought you were never going to come on Sunday because you attended the Baptist church.” “Oh yes,” the man replied. “But this stuff works. I’ll be here every Sunday.”

Many people think that this teaching is easy; it’s not. The Truths that we hold to be valid are simple Truths; however, they are not easy. We have to live, experience, and practice them every day. It is up to us to go into action, put our feet on our prayers, and to speak words of health, wealth, success and abundance. It is up to us to rid ourselves of negative, self-defeating ideas; it is up to us to know there is no lack or limitation of any kind in our lives. When we make inner changes, they can’t help but spill over into our outer experiences; it becomes automatic. Remember the Principles are simple yet powerful models that help us understand our world and our relationship to it.

Principles have the same results every time, no matter where or when they are used, or who uses them. Principles are forever. They don’t wear out, rust out, or give out, and they can’t be overused. Principles work every time. Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, stated that “If you have a choice between appearance or principle, always stand on principle.”

The Five Basic Principles of Truth

Principle One
There is only one Presence and one Power active in the universe: God the good, omnipotent.
The everywhere present Spirit of Absolute good is readily available to all and is equally present to all. "An infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one, He gives all of Himself faithfully as if there were no others." (A.W. Tozer)

"God is all, both invisible and visible. One Presence, Knowledge and Power is All. This One that is All is Perfect Life, Love, Intelligence, and Substance." (Statement of Fundamentals)

Principle Two
Our essence is of God; therefore, we are inherently good.
Jesus taught that we are both human and divine. We are spiritual beings, living in a spiritual universe, governed by spiritual laws. We are an individualized expression of God. As children of God, we are heirs to all the richness and goodness of God, endowed with the attributes and qualities of God through which we can be freed from all limitation. "Man, is a piece of the Universe made alive." (Emerson)

Principle Three
We are co-creators with God, creative reality through thoughts held in mind.
Our thoughts are the most powerful part of ourselves. We call this the "Law of Mind Action." Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind; form follows thought. We are thinking beings. God's greatest gift to us is the power of thought. Change your thoughts and change your life!

Principle Four
Through prayer and meditation, we align our heart and mind with God. Denials and affirmations are tools we use.
Prayer is talking to God; meditation is listening to God. Our God is not a reluctant God. We pray not to change God's mind, but to change our mind or consciousness to receive the gifts and joys that have already been prepared for us.

Prayer is not begging and pleading. It is knowing and connecting to the mighty force for good that dwells within. Emerson said, "Prayer is contemplating the facts of life from the highest point of view. " Prayer is saying yes to what we want to experience in life.

Principle Five
Through thoughts, words and actions, we live the Truth we know.
We have to live these Truth Principles to the best of our knowledge every day and in every way. It is up to us to speak words of health, wealth, success and abundance.
We must go into action and apply the principles in all of life's experiences.

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"...your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
(Matthew 6:10)

"If you are not expressing the will of God, you will experience inharmony.
It is equally true that when you express His will harmony will come."
(Emmet Fox)

The idea of will is making a decision and moving forward. I have decided that I am going to let God lead the way. As I trust and go forward listening to that still, small voice within, God will lead the way. If I don't know the why or the where of some situation that has occurred in my life, I can simply call upon divine understanding, knowing that the answers will be revealed.

In his book, Sermon on the Mount, Emmet Fox writes: "A tragic mistake that is often made by orthodox religious people is to assume that the will of God for them is bound to be something very dull and uninviting, if not positively unpleasant. The truth is the will of God for us always means greater freedom, greater self-expression, wider, newer, brighter experiences, better health, greater prosperity, wider opportunity of service to others and a life more abundant."

As we mature spiritually, there is a willingness to do God's will. God's will for you and God's will for me is to live healthy, happy, successful, joyous, prosperous lives. The truth is God's will for us is always good and even greater than we could ever imagine!

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

God wants only good for you and He is the sustaining, loving force that upholds the universe. God's divine plan for you is to have you accept all His good. When you understand this, you understand what is behind all incidents that take place in your worldly experience. All your experiences, whether they appear to be positive or negative, are part of God's plan for your good. This knowingness comes through your feeling nature or your heart. When you accept the fact that everything is working together for good, you understand how to accomplish. All fear is removed; confidence is restored; and understanding is established.

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"...for all that I heard from my Father I have made known to you"
(John 15:15)

"The story of Easter is the story of renewal within the individual."
(Donald Curtis)

As we enter into the spirit of Easter, we feel a triumphant spirit of new faith, new life.  A sense of wonder is evident, and we become ever more aware of God's great love for His beloved creation.

The Easter story tells us that no matter what our challenges may be, with the right attitude, we can go through them victorious in every way.  No tomb can hold us back.

There are songs of rejoicing in the air; the blooms of spring celebrate this happy day.  Our hearts rejoice and leap with gladness!  This is a new day!  Our spirits are renewed, and we feel the quickening of new life within our minds, hearts, and bodies.

Rejoice!  Rejoice!  With expectation and hope, we welcome Easter, the symbol of light, life, joy, love.  Triumphant we soar into the newness of a now blessed life!

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"...for the Lord searches every heart, and understands every desire and every thought..."
(1 Chronicles 28:9)

"Through your thinking you accumulate a mass of ideas and with
your imagination you make them into definite form."
(Catherine Ponder)

Our imagination is our connecting link to God. It is the picturing power of the mind.It is the gift of vision. What we conceive of and believe in we can achieve.

We create our life by the thoughts we think and the pictures we hold in mind. Hold that thought and hold that picture in your mind long enough and we will see it in this material world.

So, are we putting our gift of imagination to good use? Often times we use our imagination to create what we don't want. We dwell on all the things we want nothing to do with. Using our imagination correctly, along with some of our other powers such as faith, wisdom, strength and love, we can produce wonderful experiences--good health, financial abundance, great relationships.  We can create a life of total well-being.

Our imagination is our connecting link to God and we already know that it is the Father's greatest wish to give us the kingdom of heaven.

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
(Matthew 12:37)

"Through his spoken word, man is continually making laws for himself."
(Florence Scovel Shinn)

Today, I watch my words for they have power. I know and understand that I make my world by the words I utter - be they silently or audibly expressed.

Are my words constructive or destructive? What are my words doing to me? Are they building me up or tearing me down? What are they doing to others? Are they inspiring and uplifting them or making them feel downcast and less than?

Today, I watch my words for they have power. I make them positive, constructive, stimulating, creative and confident. I use words that enrich and expand my life and the life of others. I am always aware of how powerful my words are and I ask God to keep my words pure, loving, strong, helpful and faith-filled.

Today, I watch my words for they have power.

Weekly Wisdom / Thoughts on Truth

Love is a spiritual gift, an ability to direct the power of God for earthly good. It is important to exercise this ability for two reasons: first, for the good it does in harmonizing, attracting, and unifying, and second, for the development of your personal awareness of this magnificent gift of God.

Remember, emotions come and go, but Love is never changing. Still yourself toward Love to the point of fulfillment. Then direct it generously, enabling peace to be restored on earth.

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

True strength gives you a greater power than the ability to move "things" about. One of the wonderful ways strength manifests itself in your consciousness is in the form of patience. Patience is calm, uncomplaining endurance. It is persistent courage. Whenever you need to be courageous in a situation, all you need to do is become still. It is a deliberate spiritual step when you still yourself toward something spiritual. Still yourself toward strength, and a quiet courage comes forth through your consciousness as patience. If you do not draw upon your source of patience you become irritable and tense and have no other choice than to react in anger and impatience. You always have the choice of waiting on your Lord rather than becoming frustrated and embittered. Draw upon strength and patience.

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

In order to understand the purpose and function of your wonderful gift of Faith you must consider the nature of God. First, God is all your good, the source of everything you need spiritually and materially. But this source is invisible. And in the invisible it remains as potential, not necessarily in your living experience. Naturally, you want to experience your good. You want to have your needs met. So you need the ability to draw out from the invisible all your good. You want to develop the ability to receive the countless blessings that rest as potential in God, the invisible Source.

How do you actively involve yourself in the process of drawing your good from God? By using Faith! Faith is your affirmative power. It is your ability to say "Yes" to God and to your good. Simply acknowledging your needs doesn't mean that your needs will be met. You must also acknowledge that which you need and say "Yes" to it. Say "Yes" to God and your good and move it into your living experience. Saying "Yes" to perfect transportation is a far cry from acknowledging a broken down car. Complaining and being angry drains that very energy that could be directed toward drawing your good from your invisible Source. Faith is a tool with which to build a higher consciousness.

Weekly Wisdom/Thoughts on Truth

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance of what we do not see."
(Hebrews 11:1)

"Faith is confidence in the universe that enables one to go forward in the dark."
(C. G. Jung)

Today I have faith in God's presence and power within me. I go forth with a sure confidence that God loves me and cares for me. I know that the greatness of God that dwells within me is equal to every feeling of unworthiness, inadequacy or discouragement. I live in a sea of unlimited potential and pure possibilities.

I turn from beliefs, feelings and attitudes that limit or bind me to false beliefs, unfounded fears and resentments. They have no power, for I have faith in God's loving power and presence which are always with me. He strengthens me, illumines me, guides me and keeps me safe and secure.

Today I have faith in God's presence and power within me and I go forth with a sure confidence to live a life of joy, happiness and accomplishment of unlimited potential and possibilities.
